As family physicians, our doctors can serve as primary care physicians for people of all ages, as well as provide consultation for other physicians. Family medicine physicians, also called family practice physicians or family physicians, are medical doctors who specialize in providing continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and the family, including physical and behavioral health.
Matthew J. Hummel, M.D.
Board-certified Family Practitioner
Dr. Hummel received his Bachelor of Science at Michigan State University. He is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Hummel completed his Family Practice Residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice. He lives in Fountain Hills with his family, wife Suzanne, and two children, David and Alexis. Dr. Hummel volunteers his time with Pop Warner Football doing their physicals and also the Fountain Hills High School physicals. He is one of the team physicians for the high school sports teams.
Janis J. Saunders, D.O.
Board-certified Family Practitioner
Dr. Janis Saunders has been a Family Practice Physician since 1985. After a 13 year career in public school education, she followed her calling and obtained her degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1984. Her early interest in the Women’s Health movement spurred her to the Medical Directorship of the Women’s Center in South Bend, Indiana and then to a privately owned Women’s Health Center in Clarkston, Michigan. Dr. Saunders worked for Scottsdale Family Care from 1996 to 2001 and left Arizona to help open a federally funded health care facility in Pontiac, Michigan for those without insurance. In April 2007, the beauty of the Arizona desert and her only son, in school in Scottsdale, brought Dr. Saunders back to the Valley of the Sun to stay. She joined Fountain Hills Family Practice, P.C. with her focus on Women’s Health.
Salvatore Zummo, PA-C.

Sal Zummo was born in the Bronx, New York. After serving in the U.S. Navy he attended Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude. He completed his master's in physician assistant studies at A.T. Still University in Phoenix. He resides in Scottsdale with his wife Laurie, and kids, Nicholas, Anthony, and Gianna.
Haylen Trotta, PA-C.
Board-certified Physician Assistant
Haylen is originally from Westchester County, New York and is a graduate of Smith College. She received her physician assistant degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She and her husband John moved to Fountain Hills from Boston, Massachusetts. She has experience in detox medicine and cardiac surgery.
